Behind Crafted Mahjong
I learned to play mahjong and was instantly hooked — the strategy, the laughter, the connection around the table. It quickly became more than a game to me; it was a ritual of gathering, conversation, and shared moments.
As someone who loves wine and holds a WSET Level 2 certification, I initially went searching for a wine-themed mahjong set. I wanted something that reflected joy and sophistication, but I couldn’t find anything close to what I imagined.
So I started dreaming.
At first it was just sketches — an idea rooted in craft, design, and the way people come together — but with encouragement from friends and family, I finally took the leap to make it real. What began as a creative side project slowly became Crafted Mahjong™.
Designing with Intention
Designing the tiles became a surprisingly meditative process. I originally tried hiring designers, but nothing captured the modern, simple aesthetic I had in mind. So I decided to learn and do it myself — shaping each tile concept until it felt intentional and balanced. I’ve always preferred larger, single-layer tiles with clean lines, so I designed exactly the kind of set I’d been searching for.
The first result was The Wine Collection — a modern, blush-pink mahjong set inspired by the world of wine: grapes, glasses, and champagne bottles, crafted to bring people together over something they love.
The Moment
As I continued creating, I realized something important: my inspiration wasn’t limited to wine alone. Some of my favorite games happen over coffee while the kids play nearby. Others happen during quiet evenings, celebrations, or traditions passed down through generations. The common thread wasn’t the drink - it was the moment.
Crafted Mahjong is inspired by the rituals we return to — the objects we reach for again and again, the tables we gather around, and the memories we create there. Every set is thoughtfully designed to honor connection, craftsmanship, and the simple joy of being together.
